Extra Help Getting a Ride

STAR members can schedule free rides to medical appointments and other related services through the Health and Human Services Commission’s (HHSC) Medical Transportation Program (MTP). Members should first call the HHSC MTP at 1-877-633-8742 (1-877-MED-TRIP) to schedule a ride. Learn more about MTP transportation services.

If you are not able to get a ride through MTP, BCBSTX may be able to help. BCBSTX’s transportation VAS offers free rides to approved services not covered by Medicaid such as WIC visits, BCBSTX member events and meetings, approved health classes or for covered services where the parent needs to bring more than one child.

Ride Share Program

If you are a BCBSTX STAR member in need of a ride to a medically necessary, non-emergency health care appointment scheduled in less than 48 hours, you can use BCBSTX’s new Ride Share Program. The service is part of BCBSTX’s transportation VAS. The Ride Share Program can give you a ride to and from doctor visits, therapy, the pharmacy and other covered health care services that will occur in less than 48 hours.
Rides must be approved as we do with our current VAS transportation program. You can schedule a ride by calling BCBSTX Customer Service toll-free at 1-888-657-6061 (TTY 711) and picking the transportation option. BCBSTX Customer Service is available from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., Central Time, Monday through Friday.

How do I get transport benefits?

BCBSTX STAR members can get help through our VAS transportation vendor, Logisticare, when MTP is not available. Logisticare is an independent company providing transportation services for STAR members of BCBSTX.

If MTP is unable to help you and you still need help getting a ride, please call the BCBSTX Customer Service at 1-888-657-6061 to schedule a ride.

Please have this information ready when you call:

  • Your full name, current address and phone number
  • Your member ID number
  • The date you want to ride
  • The name, address and phone number of where you are going
  • What kind of appointment you are going to
  • If you will need a wheelchair van or some other kind of help during your trip
